The integrated Backup Flight Display (iBFD) is a comprehensive tool designed for pilots to mitigate risks associated with primary flight instrument failures. The loss of the Attitude Indicator poses one of the most significant hazards during flight, and the iBFD offers an affordable and user-friendly solution in such scenarios.

This iPhone-based application includes vital flight instruments such as the Attitude Indicator, Heading Indicator, Altimeter, Vertical Speed Indicator, Speed Indicator, Side Slip Indicator, and Clock. Additionally, in iPad's portrait mode, it provides a map below the Attitude Indicator that can display direction and distance to airports when airport codes are entered.

Furthermore, the iBFD can function as a Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), activated by a simple touch feature. It utilizes the iPhone's 3-axis Gyro sensor as the primary sensor and employs GPS and Accelerometer with a Kalman filter for sensor fusion to enhance accuracy.

Although lacking FAA certification and not recommended for primary flight navigation due to reliability concerns, the iBFD serves as a valuable backup instrument during emergencies or limited visibility situations. However, its accuracy regarding map and airport information is not guaranteed, highlighting its reference-only status.

Special attention is required for mounting the device securely due to potential engine vibration effects. Notable features include various display color modes, units selection for Altitude/Speed measurements, Wind calculations for Airspeed determination, customizable settings, battery status indication, and recording access for data retrieval.

The application offers a range of functionalities for pilots, including adjustments for Pitch angle zero and Magnetic Heading selection. It also provides options such as choosing between local time or UTC, GPS Altimeter versus Barometric Altimeter, Roll indicator preferences, and correction functions for Roll angle.
